I rubbed the lamp and out it shot,
Into the night and lit the dark;
The genie raised its head to me,
And clicked its fingers with a spark.

'I offer just a single wish',
He spoke, and so I made a plan;
And seconds later I had said,
‘I only want to be batman!’

'Tis done,' he said with swift reply,
And snapped his fingers round my head…
And it was freaking awesome ‘til,
I found out that my folks were dead.

Gratuitous Explaining My Dreams Post

Guys: I just want to share something awesome with you all.

Last night I had a dream I was Wonder Woman and at one point in my dream I was talking to Batman up on the Watchtower and I said “Genius really doesn’t do you justice Bruce” and he turned around and smiled (I made the Batman smile!! Even though it was a dream - but still!) and then he turned a control panel into an emergency escape pod.

There are times when waking up is the biggest disappointment ever - aka everytime I dream about the Justice League - which happens surpisingly (and awesomely) regularly.

anyways - off to bed!

You should use your full name. l like that name. Robin

NO. OKAY. NO. THIS SCENE MADE ME SO FUCKING ANGRY LIKE YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE.  NOLAN DIDN’T LIKE THE IDEA OF HAVING ROBINS BECAUSE THEY WERE TOO HAPPY FOR SUCH A DARK UNIVERSE TDKR WAS IN, BUT WHAT HE DIDN’T REALIZE IS THAT ALL THE ROBINS HAD SUCH HORRIBLE LIVES.  INCLUDING JGL’S ROBIN.

DICK WATCHED HIS PARENTS DIE IN FRONT OF HIM.  JASON WAS BEAT TO DEATH WITH A CROWBAR, SOLD OUT BY HIS MOTHER, BLEW UP AND BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE.  TIM LOST HIS BEST FRIEND, HIS DAD AND HIS GIRLFRIEND ALL WITHIN A SPAN OF MONTHS.  STEPHANIE HAD A HORRIBLE FATHER, SHE “DIED” AND SHE WAS CONSTANTLY BEING TOLD BY TIM TO GET AWAY FROM THE HERO BUSINESS, EVEN THOUGH TIM IS THE ONE WHO SHOULDN’T BE DOING IT.  AND THEN WE HAVE DAMIAN, THE FUCKING CHILD ASSASSIN AND THIS PRECIOUS CHILD WHO HONESTLY IS JUST A CHILD AND THEY MADE HIM A MURDERER LIKE REALLY. OKAY.

YOU TELL ME THERE’S NOT ANY ROOM FOR A ROBIN IN THIS UNIVERSE, FUCK YOU, BECAUSE THESE MOVIES ONLY PROVE THAT BATMAN NEEDS A ROBIN.  THIS ONLY FURTHER PROVES THAT BATMAN NEEDS A ROBIN AND FUCK YOU, NOLAN AND YOUR WHITE WASHING AND COMPLETE DISREGARD FOR GLOBAL WARMING AND SYMBOLISM. FUCK YOU.

THANK YOU. I mean seriously, it’s not ‘realistic’ enough that a teenage acrobat could use his talents to beat up a few mooks? It’s not ‘realistic’ enough that a kid raised on the streets would know how to pick a fight? It’s not ‘realistic’ enough that a boy genius could make up for his (above) average fighting skills by thinking strategically? It’s not ‘realistic’ enough that a girl who grew up surrounded by some of the world’s worst criminals couldn’t take a hit or two? It’s not ‘realistic’ that a child assassin could y’know FUCKING ASSASSINATE SOMEONE? This is why I stay away from the Nolan Trilogy, it’s not really Batman because he doesn’t really get the characters.

ALL OF THIS. I have so many issues with Nolan’s Batman - but this addresses a few of the major ones - and saves me trying to explain all of my hate.

At least Damian Wayne isn’t a product of Batman and Wonder Woman. Yikes!

I like Damian, but I wouldn’t mind an alternate universe where batman and wonder woman had a kid like with huntress for selina and bruce. A kid in a family of vigilantes descended from a line of amazons and related to Zeus, I’m not sure the world could handle a kid with so much justice and warrior like swag running around.

This (above!) is all I want for Christmas.

Just Watched

Justice League: the New Frontier (2008)

I thought parts of it were good - I liked the Hal Jordan story a lot and thought that he was developed really well. His backstory made him a more sympathetic character and he was a believable hero.

Unfortunately, the focus on making the Hal Jordan plot so complete relegated some of the other key players.  J’onn J’onzz had a well-develoepd story about his arrival on earth which included some fun scenes with him watching tv (loved that he turned into Bugs Bunny!).  His story fit the film noir theme that permeated the whole film the best.

Flash, voiced by Neil Patrick Harris (who would make a great Flash if they ever make a Justice League movie) also had a well-balanced development throughout the film.

It’s nice to see that characters in the Justice League other than the Trinity got some screen time and some thought put into their scenes and character growth.  However, it’s this focus on only these three characters that makes the movie weak.

The film is obviously set before the heroes create the Justice League - but there was still too little interaction between the six of them. One of the great things about the Justice League is seeing the banter between Flash and GL, the comaraderie and trust between the Trinity and the serious tension between Batman and Wonder Woman.  This movie lost all of that by barely featuring Wonder Woman at all and having so few scenes where the heroes were all together.

The depiction of Wonder Woman wasn’t the best - she didn’t come across as compassionate, strong or wise, only proud and angry - which is what some writers revert to when they don’t understand the complexity of her character.  Superman alludes to the source of Diana’s anger being McCarthyism but that social turmoil is never fully explored and the story is weaker for it.

Also - I would just like to say that Batman’s voice in this movie made me cringe. Not nearly deep or menacing enough. Seeing how the Gotham scenes were done in a film noir style you would think that a baritone voice would make the most sense.  Unfortunately, Batman’s voice just wasn’t up to (or should i say down to?) par.

In the end though it’s not a bad way to kill an hour and a half but I definitely prefer Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, Justice League: Doom and all of the Justice League/ JLU/ Young Justice episodes.
